About Us

The Friends of St John's

Friends of St John's is a new initiative designed to create a network of people who will create a wider support base for the ministry of St Johns.

St John Newland is a vibrant Anglican Evangelical church in the middle of one of the most ‘unchurched’ cities in the UK. With its three aims of reaching out, building up and sending out, the church has seen considerable growth over the last few years with nearly 400 people attending our different congregations (and over 90 children), with varied activities for diverse groups and a focus on community action.

However, we are not complacent and there is a need to reach to more unchurched youth, to more of our community and to train future leaders.

With your help this will be possible. We do need financial support but most of all we need prayers. As a friend of St Johns this could be your way of investing in God’s Kingdom in this place.

St. John Newland Church

St John's is an Anglican evangelical church in Kingston upon Hull, on the north east coast of England.

We meet on Sunday mornings from 10.30am-11.45pm at St John Newland Chuch on Clough Road in Hull. We serve refreshments afterwards for those who want to stay around and chat.

Riverside Church

Riverside Church is full of people who are trying to love God, each other and their community. We are a multi-cultural family, from all walks of life.

We meet on Sunday mornings from 11am-12.15pm in the hall at Parkstone School. We serve refreshments afterwards for those who want to stay around and chat.

The service is relaxed and informal, with songs, prayers and engaging bible teaching. Everyone is welcome to join us, whether you would call yourself a Christian or are simply interested in finding out more.

For young children we provide a crèche, and run other fun-packed groups for older children. These activities run for part of the service.

We are an evangelical church. This means we believe the Bible is God’s first and final authority on all matters of belief and behaviour.

Newland Christian Trust

The Newland Christian Trust is a registered charity set up to provide resources for spreading the Gospel in the parish of St John Newland, Hull, and beyond.

It has two main roles:

  1. To provide and administer funding to pay for gospel work and workers, some at St Johns and others elsewhere. This includes raising money, collecting donations and standing orders from donors, reclaiming gift aid and administering payments to projects and workers.
  2. To own and run the Newland Christian Centre on Beverley Road, Hull. This provides meeting facilities for St John’s groups and outside organisations.

The Trust is based in the Newland Christian Centre and is independent of the Church of England.

The Trustees of the Newland Christian Trust decide how to best use the trust's resources to further the work of the gospel. They also administer donations, regular giving and applications for support.

The trustees are all regular members of St John's church who have volunteered to help run the Trust. They will be pleased to answer any questions you might have about the Trust. If you have difficulty contacting a Trustee you can email info@newlandchristiantrust.org.uk or the St John’s Church Office will be able to help you, telephone +44 01482 343658. The Trustees are:

  • Viv Whitton (Chairman)
  • Kerry Gregg (Secretary)
